About the Author

The Rev. Michael England

The Rev. Michael England is the author who has been with Chi Rho Press longer than anyone (except for founder and director Adam DeBaugh). His wonderful book, "The Bible and Homosexuality" had been published by the Press' predecessor agency, the UFMCC Department of Christian Social Action, in 1983. The fourth edition was first published by Chi Rho Press in 1991, in the Press' second year. It has been a popular and best selling book ever since.

Michael England is ordained to the clergy of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches. He serves as pastor of MCC of Greater Hayward, California. He has previously served as pastor of MCC of San Francisco, as Minister of Christian Education of that congregation, as pastor of MCC of Salt Lake City, Utah, and of MCC at The Pennsylvania State University (State College, PA).

He was founding Director of the UFMCC Board of Campus Ministry and served two terms on the UFMCC Ministerial Credentials and Affairs Committee (later the Clergy Credentials and Concerns Committee).

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts from the University of California at Los Angeles and the Master of Divinity degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, CA.

Michael enjoys country/western dancing, music, films, and theatre, and can quote significant portions of "Auntie Mame," "All About Eve," "The Lion in Winter," and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" (like many self-respecting queers). He is a member of Gays and Lesbians Organized for Betterment and Equality (GLOBE) of Southern Alameda County, American Mensa and its Lesbian/Gay Special Interest Group, and the Bears of San Francisco.

Michael's book, "The Bible and Homosexuality," is now in its fifth edition.
